Louisville, Kentucky–home to the Kentucky Derby, the Louisville Slugger Museum, and one of the nation’s most revered culinary scenes–is also a mecca for RV camping. There are a plethora of RV sites near Louisville, some of which are 10 minutes from the city center, while others are an hour’s drive away. 

No matter if you’re looking for convenience or an off-grid experience (We’re looking at you, boondocking enthusiasts), there’s an RV campground for you. In this list, we’ll break down the campgrounds that have hookup RV sites (and those that will call for a more roughing-it attitude). Plus, we’ve even listed the amenities you can expect at each campground. 

The Top RV Campgrounds Near Louisville, KY

There’s plenty to do (and plenty to explore) in the Louisville area. Visit the Louisville Mega Cavern, one of the renowned golf courses along the Ohio River, or the Churchill Downs racetrack. Just look for RV campgrounds within close proximity to Louisville’s top attractions.

Whether you’re tent camping or pulling up your RV, there’s a spot for you at one of these locations.

With full hook-up sites and amenities like mini-golf and a snack bar, this RV campground caters to all ages. Plus, themed weekends and activities like outdoor movies and wagon rides add a sprinkle of magic to your stay.

Strategically located just 20 minutes from downtown Louisville’s vibrant scene, you can spend your days appreciating the Kentucky Derby Museum or visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, then retreat to your campsite at night for family time under the stars.

Derby City RV Park

When the thunderous applause of the Kentucky Derby calls your name, make your way to Derby City RV Park–known as the safest RV park near Churchill Downs. During the Derby season, this RV park comes to life with live music, karaoke, daily meals from the bar and grill, and much more. 

But Derby Season isn’t the only time of year you can stay at Derby City RV park. You can reserve a spot throughout the year. 

To park your RV at Derby City during the Kentucky Derby, you have to purchase one of their 5-day derby packages, which range from $1,000 to $1,500, a steep increase over the normal $50 per night.

Grandma’s RV Camping

Grandma’s RV Camping isn’t as fancy as some of the other RV parks on this list. It’s smaller and has fewer amenities, but it’s very accommodating, especially for pet owners or people with larger RVs. All spots are concrete pad sites, and while it’s not a big rig park, you can find spots that fit up RVs, trailers, or motorhomes up to 70 feet

Despite being located about 20 minutes south of Louisville, you still have plenty to do during your stay at Grandma’s. You’ll be close to Pine Creek Nature Preserve, River Bottom Bridge, and Louisville South KOA

Plus, Grandma’s is super cheap compared to other locations, so it’s ideal for the budget camper.

Louisville North Campground

Louisville North is reputed as one of the best campgrounds near the city. At this location, you’ll have your choice of RV site, with walking/biking trails and a pool nearby. And for our glampers, you can even rent a cabin

Note that Louisville North Campground is the only campground on this list located north of the city, while all the others are south of the Ohio River. If you get lost, you’ll find this campground right next to the trailhead for the Lewis & Clark Heritage Trail. The best part? It’s only a hop and a skip away, where you can visit Churchill Downs or the Louisville Science Center.

Cummins Ferry RV Park & Campground

Cummins Ferry is a great place for a family getaway. Located about 30 minutes east of Louisville, these RV campgrounds offer walking and biking trails, swimming, fishing, live music, a disc golf course, and much more. 

Cummins Ferry has a boat launch on the Kentucky River and a large family swimming pool. The RV campground also stands at the heart of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, with many popular distilleries nearby, such as Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve.

  • Top Amenities: WiFi, full hookups, bathhouses with laundry and showers, propane sales, pet-friendly
  • RV Size Restrictions: Up to 60’

Southern Grace Bed & Breakfast RV Park

Southern Grace is a bit farther afield from Louisville, about 50 minutes from the city center. However, this idyllic bed and breakfast offers great RV camping at a great price and is minutes away from the quaint town of Brandenburg.

This RV park is on a farm in Meade County, so you’ll have front-row seats to real Southern living–plus, a view of the alpaca fields right across the street. You’ll even have access to the 1-acre fishing pond, which also has paddle boats! Note that this farm is not far from the Doe Creek Golf Club, the Ohio River, or the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area. 

For full-time RVers, extended stays at Southern Grace are available at weekly and monthly rates.

Brooks Mobile & RV Park

Brooks is the only RV park in Louisville with a menu of three different RV site options: creekside, concrete, and gravel pad. It’s located just 2 miles from I-65 and has over 70 full hookup sites for mobile homes and RVs. 

The RV park is in a quiet neighborhood that’s a 10-minute drive from Louisville proper and only minutes away from Jefferson Memorial Forest and McNeely Lake Park. Plus, Brooks Mobile & RV Park has an on-site assistant manager who can offer excellent customer service and answer any questions!

This RV park is fairly inexpensive and in a great location. Weekly rates start at $240, while monthly rates for long-term RV guests start at $445.

Mammoth Cave National Park Campground

For thrill-seekers, Mammoth Cave National Park Campground is the ideal location. Right on the doorstep of the legendary Mammoth Cave, you can take park ranger-guided tours into the Mammoth Cave (or the surrounding wilderness). 

Mammoth Cave is an hour and a half from Louisville and Nashville, so it’s not as accessible as other RV campgrounds on this list. However, if you’re looking for a true wilderness getaway, this is the place. Cell service is spotty, and there isn’t any WiFi, so it’ll be a true off-grid experience. 

In lieu of Wi-Fi-enabled tech, you can spend time on plenty of walking and hiking trails at Mammoth Cave National Park, including the Sand Trail and Sloan’s Crossing Pond Trail.

  • RV Size Restrictions: Up to 38’

Progress Park Airstream Resort

Have you ever dreamed of luxury Airstream camping but don’t have the money to buy an expensive camper? Progress Park is just the place for you. Instead of RV hookups, they have ten different airstreams already set up at their campground, itching including hammocks, shaded pavilions, and a view of the private pond. 

Progress Park offers what it calls “all-inclusive glamping,” so all you need to bring is your clothes, sunscreen, and snacks. They provide fresh linens, smart TVs, microwaves, basic toiletries, and a range of activities, like boating, volleyball, and shuffleboard

Plus, Progress Park is only a few minutes away from the Louisville International Airport, so you can easily head home after your glamping vacation.
